There is an abundance of wonderful and freshly roasted coffee to be explored across Toronto. Dozens of coffee roasters are using their craft to serve Torontonians with some of the best coffee in the world.

Here are the five best coffee roasters in Toronto that every coffee enthusiast must try.

1. De Mello Coffee Roasters

De Mello Coffee Roasters offer one of the best varieties of bean types and process methods in Toronto.

This includes experimental coffee, such as their lactic natural fermentation called “Colombia Castellon.” It’s roasts like this that you simply can’t find at most roasteries.

Fans of natural processed coffees have to give them a try.

We love how they offer a weekly shipping option with smaller (227g) bean portions. This means you will receive beans that are more freshly roasted than most monthly coffee subscriptions. The small product sizes allow you to test a greater variety of coffee.

It’s also a nice feature that they provide a photo of their grind sizes when ordering online. It’s a small thing but a nice touch.

One of the best roasters I’ve been to in the city. I’ve gotten coffee/espresso drinks made there and it’s fantastic. I’ve purchased beans to make coffee at home which have all turned out to be amazing (Sakura is my absolute favourite). By far my favourite product is the instant coffee! So delicious and easy. This place is a must visit

I feel like I need to submit a review after ordering beans for the 3rd time. As someone who lives in the burbs, I absolutely LOVE ordering their coffee beans and receiving it in the mail. I find their prices reasonable, great tasting coffee beans, always roasted just before mailed. My only qualm is that I wish they had an amazon prime-like 1-day delivery 🙂

Outpost Coffee Roasters boast one of the highest customers ratings in Toronto, with more than 500 reviews.

I make 1.5hrs round trip drive to this place every two weeks to buy my coffee. For over a year I’ve been searching for good beans all the way from Oakville to downtown Toronto and tried every roasters along the way and Lefthook is it! Love this place so much I’d much rather drive here in person rather than order online. Staffs are friendly and espresso tonic really hits the spot. And when you see a shop pulling shots with van der westen you know they are serious about their coffee.

We have repeatedly purchased their 5lb bag of beans and tried several of their roasts, all of which get 5 stars. My boyfriend showed me this place when he said he found his new favourite latte and I needed to try it. Since then we’ve made stopping in for a latte a ritual when we go for a walk and it’s almost exclusively the brand of coffee we brew at home.

3. Propeller Coffee Co.

Propeller Coffee Co. is quickly becoming one of the best known coffee roasters across Canada, let alone Toronto. They produce high-quality roasts that any coffee lover would enjoy.

While they do offer a variety of great roasts, they do not offer the most robust variety of bean varietals. This may leave some coffee enthusiasts wanting more.

Regardless, they are a must-try Toronto roaster. Customers outside of Toronto can order a weekly subscription frequency for maximum freshness.

I tried their Yemen coffee and never have I been moved so deeply by a bean before. I was thinking about it for days afterwards until I managed to justify spending that much money on a bag of coffee. It’s beyond coffee.. something more complex and tantalizing.. something that keeps you awake at night.

We love Ethica Coffee Roasters – from the staff to their welcoming space and of course their amazing coffee beans. It’s our go to coffee shop in Toronto. Their Ethiopia Shakisso Birbisa (natural) is arguably the best espresso bean in town and their Colombia El Paraiso Gold has one of the most interesting flavours. Writing this as I’m sipping a cup of the Colombia El Paraiso Gold. So good that it propelled me to write this review.

Pilot Coffee Roasters offer an excellent variety of roasts and bean origins. We also found that they offer a very interesting selection of limited roasts that are offered occasionally.

Great coffee with date stamps marking the day it was roasted. You always know when you are getting freshly roasted coffee. Their coffee is perfect for espresso machines because it is freshly roasted, you’ll get a rich and thick crema.

A tiny but mighty coffee shop hidden underground. You definitely need to try all their products. Beautiful and tasty espressos, lattes and everything else. All the drinks are made in front of you which is always enjoyable to watch. You can buy their own beans in variety of roast levels and flavours. They are really good.
